John 14:5-10: Jesus Said "I Am the Way" — So Why Do People Keep Searching for the Path?

Thomas said to Jesus, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" This is a very practical question — if you don't know the destination, how could you know which road to take? Jesus's answer completely reframed the question.

Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life" — how does this differ from the usual logic of "finding a path"?

Jesus answered, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (v.6). Thomas was looking for "a road leading somewhere," but Jesus said He Himself was that road. This isn't a set of steps or a formula to follow, but a person to build a relationship with. This reminds us that when life feels lost, what we often need isn't more information or planning, but knowing Jesus more deeply, letting Him personally guide our steps.

Philip said, "show us the Father" — what does Jesus's response remind us about knowing God?

Philip asked, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us." Jesus answered with a hint of lament, "Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father" (v.8-9). Philip wanted a more dramatic manifestation, without realizing the answer he sought had been right in front of him all along. This reminds us that sometimes we long for God to give us a special vision or miracle, while overlooking that the basic knowledge of Jesus we already have is actually enough to answer our longing for God.

The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works" (v.10).
