Exodus

有 一 個 利 未 家 的 人 娶 了 一 個 利 未 女 子 為 妻 。

And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

那 女 人 懷 孕 ， 生 一 個 兒 子 ， 見 他 俊 美 ， 就 藏 了 他 三 個 月 ，

And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

後 來 不 能 再 藏 ， 就 取 了 一 個 蒲 草 箱 ， 抹 上 石 漆 和 石 油 ， 將 孩 子 放 在 裡 頭 ， 把 箱 子 擱 在 河 邊 的 蘆 荻 中 。

And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.

孩 子 的 姊 姊 遠 遠 站 著 ， 要 知 道 他 究 竟 怎 麼 樣 。

And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.

法 老 的 女 兒 來 到 河 邊 洗 澡 ， 他 的 使 女 們 在 河 邊 行 走 。 他 看 見 箱 子 在 蘆 荻 中 ， 就 打 發 一 個 婢 女 拿 來 。

And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

他 打 開 箱 子 ， 看 見 那 孩 子 。 孩 子 哭 了 ， 他 就 可 憐 他 ， 說 ： 「 這 是 希 伯 來 人 的 一 個 孩 子 。 」

And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.

孩 子 的 姊 姊 對 法 老 的 女 兒 說 ： 「 我 去 在 希 伯 來 婦 人 中 叫 一 個 奶 媽 來 ， 為 你 奶 這 孩 子 ， 可 以 不 可 以 ？ 」

Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

法 老 的 女 兒 說 ： 「 可 以 。 」 童 女 就 去 叫 了 孩 子 的 母 親 來 。

And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.

法 老 的 女 兒 對 他 說 ： 「 你 把 這 孩 子 抱 去 ， 為 我 奶 他 ， 我 必 給 你 工 價 。 」 婦 人 就 抱 了 孩 子 去 奶 他 。

And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

孩 子 漸 長 ， 婦 人 把 他 帶 到 法 老 的 女 兒 那 裡 ， 就 作 了 他 的 兒 子 。 他 給 孩 子 起 名 叫 摩 西 ， 意 思 說 ： 因 我 把 他 從 水 裡 拉 出 來 。

And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water. ^{Moses: that is, Drawn out}

後 來 ， 摩 西 長 大 ， 他 出 去 到 他 弟 兄 那 裡 ， 看 他 們 的 重 擔 ， 見 一 個 埃 及 人 打 希 伯 來 人 的 一 個 弟 兄 。

And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

他 左 右 觀 看 ， 見 沒 有 人 ， 就 把 埃 及 人 打 死 了 ， 藏 在 沙 土 裡 。

And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

第 二 天 他 出 去 ， 見 有 兩 個 希 伯 來 人 爭 鬥 ， 就 對 那 欺 負 人 的 說 ： 「 你 為 甚 麼 打 你 同 族 的 人 呢 ？ 」

And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

那 人 說 ： 「 誰 立 你 作 我 們 的 首 領 和 審 判 官 呢 ？ 難 道 你 要 殺 我 ， 像 殺 那 埃 及 人 麼 ？ 」 摩 西 便 懼 怕 ， 說 ： 「 這 事 必 是 被 人 知 道 了 。 」

And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known. ^{a prince: Heb. a man, a prince}

法 老 聽 見 這 事 ， 就 想 殺 摩 西 ， 但 摩 西 躲 避 法 老 ， 逃 往 米 甸 地 居 住 。

Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

一 日 ， 他 在 井 旁 坐 下 。 米 甸 的 祭 司 有 七 個 女 兒 ； 他 們 來 打 水 ， 打 滿 了 槽 ， 要 飲 父 親 的 群 羊 。

Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock. ^{priest: or, prince}

有 牧 羊 的 人 來 ， 把 他 們 趕 走 了 ， 摩 西 卻 起 來 幫 助 他 們 ， 又 飲 了 他 們 的 群 羊 。

And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

他 們 來 到 父 親 流 珥 那 裡 ； 他 說 ： 「 今 日 你 們 為 何 來 得 這 麼 快 呢 ？ 」

And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day? ^{Reuel: called also Jethro, or, Jether}

他 們 說 ： 「 有 一 個 埃 及 人 救 我 們 脫 離 牧 羊 人 的 手 ， 並 且 為 我 們 打 水 飲 了 群 羊 。 」

And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.

他 對 女 兒 們 說 ： 「 那 個 人 在 那 裡 ？ 你 們 為 甚 麼 撇 下 他 呢 ？ 你 們 去 請 他 來 吃 飯 。 」

And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.

摩 西 甘 心 和 那 人 同 住 ； 那 人 把 他 的 女 兒 西 坡 拉 給 摩 西 為 妻 。

And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.

西 坡 拉 生 了 一 個 兒 子 ， 摩 西 給 他 起 名 叫 革 舜 ， 意 思 說 ： 「 因 我 在 外 邦 作 了 寄 居 的 。 」

And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land. ^{Gershom: that is, A stranger here}

過 了 多 年 ， 埃 及 王 死 了 。 以 色 列 人 因 做 苦 工 ， 就 歎 息 哀 求 ， 他 們 的 哀 聲 達 於 　 神 。

And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

神 聽 見 他 們 的 哀 聲 ， 就 記 念 他 與 亞 伯 拉 罕 、 以 撒 、 雅 各 所 立 的 約 。

And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

神 看 顧 以 色 列 人 ， 也 知 道 他 們 的 苦 情 。

And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them. ^{had: Heb. knew}
