Chapter 20 — Bilingual

1

酒能使人褻慢,濃酒使人喧嚷;凡因酒錯誤的,就無智慧。

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

2

王的威嚇如同獅子吼叫;惹動他怒的,是自害己命。

The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.

3

遠離爭競是人的尊榮;愚妄人都喜歡爭鬧。

It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.

4

懶惰人因冬寒不肯耕種,到收割的時候,他必討飯而無所得。

The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

人心懷藏的謀略,如同深水,惟明哲人纔能汲引出來。

Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

多有人自稱為有仁義的;但忠信人誰能遇著呢?

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

行事完全的義人,他的子孫是有福的。

The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

王坐在審判的位上,以眼目驅散一切的惡。

A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

9

誰能說我潔淨了我的心,我脫淨了我的罪?

Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

10

兩樣的砝碼,兩樣的升斗,都為耶和華所憎惡。

Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.

11

孩童的行為,若是清潔正直,他的品格就顯明了。

Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

12

能聽的耳,能看的眼,都是耶和華所造的。

The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.

13

不要貪睡,免致貧窮;眼要睜開,你就吃飽。

Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

14

買物的說:「不好,不好」;及至買去,他便自誇。

It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

15

有金子,有許多珍珠;但多知識的嘴乃是寶器(原文作:貴重的珍寶)。

There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

16

誰為生人(原文作:外人)作保,就拿誰的衣服;誰為外邦女子(原文作:外邦人)作保,誰就要受累(原文:就為他取抵押之物)。

Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

17

以欺詐得來的食物,人覺甘甜;但後來他的口必充滿塵沙。

Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

18

計謀都憑籌算立定;打仗要憑智謀。

Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

19

往來傳舌的,洩漏密事;嘴唇張開的(原文作:迷惑的),不可與他結交。

He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

20

咒罵父母的,他的燈必滅,變為漆黑的黑暗。

Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

21

起初速得的產業,終久卻不為福。

An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.

22

不要說:「我要以惡報惡。」要等候耶和華,他必拯救你。

Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

23

兩樣的砝碼,為耶和華所憎惡;虛假的天平,也為不善。

Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

24

人的腳步為耶和華所定;人豈能明白自己的路呢?

Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

25

人冒失說「這是聖物」,許願之後才查問,就是自陷網羅。

It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.

26

智慧的王,簸揚惡人,用碌碡(碌碡(ㄌㄨˋ ㄓㄡˊ):碾穀物的石滾)滾軋他們。

A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.

27

耶和華的燈,是人的靈,照察人的心腹。

The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

28

王藉仁慈誠實保全他的國位,他也憑仁慈立穩。

Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.

29

年輕人以力氣為榮;老年人以白髮為美。

The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head.

30

傷人的鞭傷,使惡除去;打人的,打通人的心腹。

The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
